DC Ranch helps you protect your identity
Community shredding event will benefit Foothills Food Bank
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Oct. 22, 2008) – DC Ranch and Shred-it are joining forces to help combat identity theft and hunger in the north Valley by hosting Shred-it & Give Thanks on Saturday, Nov. 8, at DC Ranch. Two Shred-it mobile shredding trucks will be on site. Residents Valley-wide are invited to bring all the documents they can carry for safe shredding. The event doubles as a benefit for the Foothills Food Bank, and attendees are asked to bring donation items. The Shred-it event, which will feature a family-friendly atmosphere, children’s activities and food and beverage offerings, will coincide with “The Market,” DC Ranch’s Market Street farmer’s market.
Shredding documents that contain personal information is a way to prevent identity crimes. “Identity theft is the fastest-growing form of consumer fraud in North America,” said Erik Rich, director of sales at Shred-it, Arizona. “Valley residents can protect themselves by destroying confidential and personal documents rather than disposing of them in non-secure places such as garbage bins,” continued Rich.
The event promotes the health of the environment because Shred-it recycles all of the paper it shreds. “As a result of this event, DC Ranch will receive an Environmental Certificate detailing the positive impact their relationship with Shred-it has had on the environment,” said Rich. Shred-it estimates that each time two of its consoles are filled, clients save a tree and become part of a network that saves more than 9 million trees a year worldwide.
Shred-it & Give Thanks helps to feed hungry north Valley families, too. Admission to the community shredding event is a requested donation to the Foothills Food Bank, where items such as cereal, peanut butter, jelly, pasta and pasta sauce, and cash are always welcome. "We are coming up on the holidays when the Foothills Food Bank helps families in need make special memories," said Pam DiPietro, Foothills Food Bank executive director. "The need to provide assistance to families in distress is ever-growing, even in this geographic area of supposed affluence. It could be your neighbor that has fallen on hard times. With the economy in the state that it is, those who were living on the edge and suddenly have some crisis thrust upon them are the people that we see today," DiPietro continued.
Shred-it & Give Thanks is sponsored by Wachovia and made possible by Scottsdale Foothills Rotary in partnership with Foothills Food Bank, Shred-it, DC Ranch Community Council, Costco, Boy Scout Troop 916 and Krispy Kreme.
