In 1988 the food bank was founded because there was a large Hispanic population that was in need. Today the opposite is true. The majority population that we are serving is non-Hispanic. In the beginning we would see, on average 45 families a month. Today we see, on average 375 families in a month.
Seniors in need are growing the fastest. They struggle to make ends meet and the food they get from the Foothills Food Bank helps them to pay a bill.
We are also seeing more people that are either living in their car or out in the desert. We are trying to help them with additional resources. We have a group of volunteers that will meet with a client one-on-one and help them in finding resources that will get them out of the desert.
